Simon Pasini - Santa Groce

Simon Pasini over schilderij ' Santa Groce':

The painting is a study of a square of Marciana, a small village on the island of Elba which originated around the year 1200. It is a small jewel perched on the slopes of Monte Capanne the highest relief of the island. The absence of atmospheric pollution makes the light intense and clear.

Description

The painting is a study of a square of Marciana, a small village on the island of Elba which originated around the year 1200. It is a small jewel perched on the slopes of Monte Capanne the highest relief of the island. The absence of atmospheric pollution makes the light intense and clear. On the walls of the houses layers of plaster reveal the passage of time, even the simplest wall in this context appears full of things to tell, I enjoyed exploring its narrow streets and stairways and cozy courtyards, without a precise destination, while casually catching the sounds of family life floating out from behind the shutters kept ajar to keep out the glaring midday sun but sufficiently open to the sea breeze. I purposely used the oil medium in alternation between an almost watercolour style and thicker strokes to convey the perception of layers of time.
